New Delhi, Feb 14 : The annual rate of inflation, based on monthly Wholesale Price Index, stood at 2.76 per cent for January 2019 over the same month last year as compared to 3.80 per cent for the previous month.
The WPI for ‘All Commodities’ for January 2019 declined by 0.7 per cent for the previous month. The index for primary articles declined by 0.1 per cent for the previous month.
The index for ‘Food Articles’ group rose by 0.1 per cent while for ‘Non-Food Articles’ group, it rose by 0.8 per cent for the previous month, according to data released by the government on Thursday.
The index for ‘Minerals’ group rose by 7.8 per cent while for 'Crude Petroleum & Natural Gas' group, it declined by 9.2 per cent. The index for Fuel and power group declined by 4.1 per cent and for ‘Mineral Oils’ group by 6.7 per cent for the previous month.
The index for ‘Electricity’ group declined by 1.5 per cent and for manufactured products by 0.3 per cent. The index for ‘Manufacture of Textiles’ group declined by 0.3 per cent while for ‘Manufacture of Wearing Apparel’ group, it rose by 1.3 per cent for the previous month .
The index for ‘Manufacture of Pharmaceuticals, Medicinal Chemical and Botanical Products’ group rose by 1.1 per cent while for ‘Manufacture of Computer, Electronic and Optical Products’ group declined by 0.4 per cent. The index for ‘Manufacture of Motor Vehicles, Trailers and Semi-Trailers’ group rose by 0.2 per cent.
The rate of inflation based on WPI Food Index consisting of ‘Food Articles’ from Primary Articles group and ‘Food Product’ from Manufactured Products group increased from 0.07 per cent in December, 2018 to 1.84 per cent in January, 2019. (UNI)
