Agency News

New Delhi, Jun 9 : Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has called an all-party meeting on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the Coronavirus situation in the National Capital and measures to contain the spread of the virus. On Monday, the Lieutenant Governor had overruled the Delhi government's decision that the state-run and private hospitals will only provide COVID-19 treatment to bona fide residents of Delhi.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on Sunday reserved nCov beds in hospitals run by the state government and private hospitals for Delhi residents till the pandemic subsides. Overruling the Delhi Government's decision, Mr Baijal on Monday issued the order stating that hospitals will treat Covid patients irrespective of their residential address. The order said that treatment should not be denied to any patient on the ground of not being resident of Delhi.

'Departments and authorities concerned of NCT of Delhi ensure that treatment is not denied to any patient on the ground of not being a resident of Delhi,' Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, who is also the Chairman of Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), said in the order. Reacting to the Lieutenant Governor's order, Mr Kejriwal in a tweet on Monday said, ' The LG's order has created a big challenge for the Delhiites. Arranging for treatment for people coming from all over the country during the pandemic is a huge challenge.

Maybe it is God's will that we have to serve all the countrymen. We will try to arrange for everyone's treatment." Delhi's COVID-19 contagion tally inched to 30k with the figure now rising to 29,943 confirmed cases on Monday. According to the Dehi state health bulletin released here on Monday, 1,007 fresh infections were reported in the past 24 hours in the capital. Fatalities in the city have also witnessed an increase, with the toll now mounting to 874 deaths so far due to the pandemic. (UNI)
