Delhi's COVID tally crosses 10k mark

New Delhi, May 18 : Situation continues to remain grim in Maharashtra with a fresh spike of 2,347 infections taking the tally to 33,053 and death toll climbing to 1,198 after 63 more lives were lost to the infection. Gujarat, at the second spot now houses 11,379 Corona cases after witnessing a spike of 391 infections with total fatalities at 659, including 34 recent deaths.

The Tamil Nadu tally has jumped to 11,224 with 639 new cases, while the death toll in the southern state now stands at 78 with four fresh fatalities. Tally in the national capital has crossed the 10,000-mark, as the figure now stands at 10,054 cases and casualties rising to 160 after 31 people succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, the largest state -- Rajasthan now houses 5,202 cases with 242 more people testing positive with its casualties now standing at 131 after adding five more deaths since Sunday. Similarly, Madhya Pradesh's tally has now increased to 4,977 after 188 fresh cases. Death toll in the state at present is recorded at 248.

The state of Uttar Pradesh has added one fresh case in the past 24 hours, taking the tally to 4,259. No death has been reported here since Sunday. On the other hand, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh are housing 2,677 and 2,407 cases, respectively till Monday morning. Death toll in West Bengal has now reached 238, whereas 50 people have died due to the global pandemic in Andhra Pradesh so far. The infection tally in Punjab is now 1,964 with 18 fresh cases, with its death toll now reaching 38 after three more people succumbed to the infection. (UNI)
