New Delhi, Mar 13 : Delhi Assembly on Friday passed a resolution against implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR) in the National Capital.
The resolution in this regard was moved in the state assembly by Aam Aadmi Party MLA and Delhi Minister Gopal Rai. Speaking on the resolution, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said,'I request Centre, with folded hands, to withdraw NRC, NPR. They should not be implemented.' Mr Rai said that NRC is raising doubts of citizenship of every person. Opposing the NPR, Kalkaji MLA Atishi said,'through NPR the Central Government is trying to make a backdoor entry for NRC.
We won't let this happen" Mr Kejriwal said,'While our Nation is dealing with a major Economic Crisis, Modi Government is trying to divert attention from this by bringing this unnecessary NPR exercise.
Delhi Government opposes NPR and NRC.' Later, the assembly passed the resolution. Delhi is latest to pass a resolution against NPR and NRC. Earlier, a similar resolution was passed by several State Assemblies like Kerala and West Bengal. (UNI)
