New Delhi, Feb 13: Arvind Kejriwal, Aam Aadmi Party national convenor and Chief Minister-designate, on Thursday invited Delhiites to attend his swearing-in ceremony at Ramlila Maidan, scheduled for February 16 at 1000 hrs.
Kejriwal-led AAP registered a landslide victory in the February 8 Delhi Assembly polls, winning 62 of 70 seats, reducing the Bharatiya Janata Party to single eight. In the results, announced on February 11, a decimated Indian National Congress, which had ruled Delhi for 15 years under Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, again failed to open its account.
The AAP has made it clear that it would be a Delhi affair and no Chief Minister or political leader from other states would be part of the ceremony. No Opposition unity would be on display, the party asserted.
Kejriwal took oath at Ramlila Maidan in 2013 and 2015 also.
The maidan is the venue where Gandhian Anna Hazare held an indefinite hunger strike against corruption, demanding a strong Lok Pal Bill.
"Delhiites, your son is going to take oath as Delhi CM for the third time. Please come to bless your son," Kejriwal tweeted.
The erstwhile officer of Indian Revenue Service is expected to take oath along with all his Cabinet Ministers on Sunday at 10 am.
In an audio message, Kejriwal said the Tricolour would fly high with pride only when the children of India get access to education, women feel safe and confident, farmers get their due and people discard discrimination based on caste and religion. (UNI)
