New Delhi, Feb 7: In a move to encourage people to cast their votes in Delhi Assembly Polls on February 8, Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi has declared 8th February (voting day) as a paid holiday in Delhi.
"It is notified for information of the General Public that as per the provision of section 135B (1) of the Representation of the People Act,1951, every person employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking or any other establishment and entitled to vote, shall be granted a holiday on 8th February 2020 (Saturday), the day of poll in Delhi, so that she/he can cast his/her vote in the election to the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of NCT of Delhi 2020," Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, General Administration Department has said in a statement.
"Any contravention of the above provision by an employer is punishable as per the provision of section 135B (3) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951," it added. Dr Ranbir Singh, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Delhi, also shared the public notice on his official twitter handle. The counting of votes will be done on February 11. (UNI)
