Delhi Police appeals Shaheen Bagh protestors to clear road in larger public interest

Agency News

New Delhi, Jan 17: Delhi Police has appealed to the agitators at the Shaheen Bagh to cooperate and clear the road in view of larger public interest as the highway blockade due to the ongoing protests was making the residents of Delhi NCR suffer, as lakhs of commuters use the road everyday.

The Police urged the protestors to cooperate and clear the road as senior citizens, emergency patients, school going children and others were affected because of the blocked road.

Anti CAA and NRC protests at the Shaheen Bagh have been taking place since long, resulting in temporary closure of the Kalindi Kunj-Shaheen Bagh Stretch and Okhla underpass that has hit the traffic movement between Delhi -Noida and Faridabad.

The commuters are being forced to take a detour opting the alternative routes via Delhi-Noida-Delhi (DND) Expressway and Ashram, that is causing traffic snarls.

It was on Monday that the Delhi High Court agreed to hear a PIL seeking to open Kalindi Kunj-Shaheen Bagh stretch, which was filed by an advocate and social activist.

The stretch has been closed since December 15. (UNI)
