JNU students’ protest March to Parliament begins; 144 clamped

Agency News

Delhi, 18 Nov 2019: A massive march of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students to the parliament has begun on Monday. In the huge march, to protest against the hostel fee hike and appeal lawmakers to take up their cause, conducted by the Jawaharlal Nehru Students' Union (JNUSU), around three thousand students are participating.

To deal with the untoward situation, the Delhi Police put prohibitory orders in place and Section 144 was imposed near Parliament. Around 1200 police officials have been deployed. The march was planned in view of the winter session of Parliament.

Bowing to the demands of protesting JNU students, the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry Monday appointed a three-member high-powered committee to address the concerns regarding the fee hike.
