Cabinet nod for regularisation of unauthorised colonies in Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 23 : Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved regularisation of unauthorised colonies in the Capital and 40 lakh people living in these colonies will get ownership rights.

Briefing mediapersons about the decision, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri along with Telecom and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said the Union Cabinet has approved regulations for conferring/recognising ownership or mortgage/transfer rights to 40 lakh residents of unauthorized colonies in Delhi.

Mr. Puri said the Bill in this regard will to be introduced in the Winter session of Parliament which commences on November 18. The ministers denied that the Union Cabinet's decision was prompted by the coming assembly elections in Delhi. Some of the affluent unauthorised colonies like Sainik Farms and Anantram Dairy figure in the list of colonies to be regularised. These colonies will get parks, sewerage system and other facilities after regularisation. (UNI)
