Man convicted for smuggling tiger body parts

New Delhi, Sep 13 : A PMLA court of Delhi on Friday sentenced a man to four years of rigorous imprisonment for smuggling body parts of a tiger.

Enforcement Directorate (ED) got Surajbhan alias Sarju convicted in wildlife case under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The Central financial probe agency registered a case on December 30, 2013 under Wild Life (Protection) Act against Naresh alias Lala, Surajbhan alias Sarju and Surajpal alias Chacha for illegally carrying tiger body parts in a car intercepted by the Delhi Police.

The accused Surajpal alias Chacha had passed away during the trial. The third accused Naresh was acquitted. The court held Surajbhan has committed the offence of money-laundering under PMLA. (UNI)
