New Delhi, Sep 3: Delhi Cabinet on Tuesday approved the expansion of the Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas yojana for the OBC and EWS of the general category.
Prior to this, the scheme was applicable to the SC category, but will now cover OBCs and those amongst the general category whose combined family income is less than eight lakh rupees per annum.
In a major decision, the Delhi Cabinet in its meeting on Tuesday chaired by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, granted its approval to the Department of Social Welfare’s proposal for the expansion of Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana to include all children who have passed class X & XII from Delhi and whose annual family income is less than eight lakh rupees.
After the meeting, briefing the media, Delhi CM said, ''Our government is giving maximum attention to Education. It is our aim to ensure that no child born in Delhi should be bereft of good education in this age of stiff competition due to poverty or lack of resources. To achieve this goal we have taken many steps.”
He said, ''On the one hand we have made education completely free till class XII and on the other hand we have completely changed the picture of government schools, these used to be in very bad condition earlier, and now these schools shine, he added.
Premier institutes for preparation of Civil Services Examination, Entrance Exams for Medical & Engineering and Judicial Services Examination are not coming forward for empanelment under the scheme. In this regard a meeting was convened by the Minister (welfare of SC/ST) with the representatives of the coaching institutes to improve the quality of coaching in Delhi. (UNI)
