New Delhi, Jul 17: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh for the six-year old rape victim who is undergoing treatment at the Safdarjung hospital here.
In a tweet, he said ''I am horrified after seeing the condition of six year-old girl child in Safdarjung Hospital. Met her father. What society do we live in?''.
''Delhi government will provide Rs 10 lakh financial assistance & best legal help. We will make best efforts so that accused gets exemplary punishment,'' he further said.
The six year old girl was sexually assaulted allegedly by a rickshaw-puller in Janakpuri area of West Delhi on Monday morning.
The accused has been arrested in the matter and a case under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) registered.
The 26-year-old accused belonged to Begusarai in Bihar.
He had expressed concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the city and said people of Delhi and the government were ready to co-operate with the Centre, in view of dealing with the issue.
The Chief Minister appealed to the Central government to take steps to improve the law and order situation and said Delhi government would ensure the best medical treatment and facilities to the survivor.
Delhi Commission for Women has also sought a report regarding the probe into the Janakpuri incident by Friday. (UNI)
