New Delhi, Jun 27: The Cabinet on Thursday approved the proposal of the Social Welfare Department (SWD) for the rehabilitation programme to persons identified as manual scavengers in Delhi government under the provisions of the 'Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013'.
The Delhi Cabinet was chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
''The benefits that will be provided are one time cash assistance of Rs 40,000 to identified manual scavenger, loans for projects of Rs 15 lakh on concessional rates of interest, credit linked back-end capital subsidy upto Rs 3,25,000 and skill development training upto two years with stipend of Rs 3,000 per month,'' an official statement of Delhi government said.
During the meeting of State Monitoring Committee held on September 24, 2018, under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, it had come to notice that about 45 manual scavengers had been identified in three districts viz Shahadra, North-East and East.
Directions were issued to the District Magistrates heading the District Level Survey Committees of their respective district to conclude the survey within next month and submit the report.
It was also directed in the meeting to frame proposal for the purpose of rehabilitation under Section 13 of the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act 2013. (UNI)
