New Delhi, Jun 17 : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday visited the residence of Gramin Seva an auto driver who was allegedly assaulted last evening by several Delhi police personnel at Mukherjee Nagar.
"The incident came to light after local residents shared the videos of gruesome and barbaric assault on the driver and his son, which went viral on social media. The shameful incident has brought the Delhi Police’s highly objectionable behaviour into question once again,"the Delhi Government said in a statement.
After visiting the family and hearing about the ordeal of the driver, Kejriwal said, "The manner in which the driver was beaten was most brutal and barbaric. I condemn this assault by Delhi Police personnel in the strongest possible words. I appeal to the Lieutenant Governor, DCP, Police Commissioner, that the policemen responsible for the attack be punished severely. No citizen should have to go through this at the hands of the police.
"The LG and the Home Minister will have to be very strict about the rising rate of crime in Delhi. This needs to stop. What has happened is highly condemnable and those responsible should not be spared.'
Earlier in the morning, Mr Kejriwal had tweeted, 'Delhi Police brutality in Mukherjee Nagar is highly condemnable and unjustified. I demand an impartial probe into the whole incident & strict action against the guilty. Protectors of citizens can't be allowed to turn into uncontrolled violent mobsters.'
