New Delhi, Jun 3 : BJP Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari on Monday hit out at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's announcement of free metro and bus travel for women in the National Capital, and called it a 'futile' attempt to buy votes ahead of the Assembly elections.
Mr Kejriwal here on Monday announced free travel for women commuters in Delhi Metro and DTC buses running in the National Capital.
Addressing the media persons, BJP's MP-elect, from North East Delhi constituency, Mr Tiwari said,"Mr Kejriwal is making a futile attempt to buy voters ahead of state polls.'
'Now Mr Kejriwal will tell Delhi citizens, one bus will be at your front door,' he said.
'If Mr Kejriwal wants to do something good for the people, he must implement central government's Ayushman Bharat scheme,' he said.
"If Mr Kejriwal doesn't launch Prime Minister Narendra Modi's housing or health schemes for the poor in Delhi, the BJP will surely do it in six-seven months later,' he said.
Delhi BJP leader Vijay Goel said in a tweet,'Kejriwal government is awake now before the Delhi elections. Now he is reminded of the free travel in the metro, excessive fixed charge of electricity. The public is quite aware.'
Mr Kejriwal said in all DTC buses, cluster buses and metro trains, women commuters will be allowed to travel free of cost so that they can have a safe travel experience and access to modes of transport which were not affordable earlier due to high prices.
He said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government was making an effort to start this free travel within two to three months. On losses which would occur with the implementation of the scheme, the Chief Minister said AAP government will bear all the cost. (UNI)
