Hapur lynching: Apex Court refuses plea for supplementary chargesheet

New Delhi, May 28 : The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to entertain a petition filed by the relative of the Hapur lynching victim, seeking a direction to file the supplementary chargesheet in the case against the accused persons.A two-judge vacation bench of the Apex Court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi and comprising of Justice Aniruddha Bose, turned down the plea of the victim's relative Samiuddin and asked him to approach the trial court for seeking his prayers redressal.

In June 2018, cattle trader Qasim Qureshi was allegedly lynched to death in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, while his relative, Samiuddin severely injured, when a group of people attacked them on the suspicion of being involved in cow slaughter and beef trading.

The Apex Court on September 5, 2018, had asked the Inspector General (IG) of Police, Meerut Range, to coordinate and oversee the investigation into the lynching.
