New Delhi, May 16 : Alleging dowry demands, a Delhi-based woman on Thursday approached the Supreme Court seeking redressal for an illegal talaq and contended that it should be declared null and void.
A vacation bench, headed by Justice Indira Banerjee and also comprising Justice Sanjiv Khanna, after hearing the mentioning by the woman's counsel, M M Kashyap, ruled that it would hear the petition on Friday.The bench ruled, "We will hear the plea of the petitioner woman tomorrow."
Plaintiff sought a direction from the apex court seeking registration of a FIR (First Information Report) against her husband, in-laws under the new Ordinance which was re-promulgated on February 21, this year.
She also pleaded that the Supreme Court declare her talaq as null and void and for appropriate order and directions in this regard. (UNI)
