Cabinet okays constitution of panel on unauthorised colonies in Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 7: The Cabinet on Thursday approved the proposal for Constitution of a Committee to recommend the process for conferring, recognising ownership or transfer, mortgage rights to the residents of unauthorised colonies (UCs) in Delhi.

The committee would be chaired by the Lt. Governor of Delhi with 9 other members, an official said.

The members include Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Vice Chairman, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Additional Secretary, Delhi government’s Chief Secretary, Commissioners of East, North and South Municipal Corporations of Delhi, Chairman of Delhi Urban Arts Commission, Professor of Urban Transport, School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), Urban Planner and Director of National Institute of Urban Affairs, Former Director of Delhi Fire Services and Principal Commissioner of DDA as Member Secretary.

The decision was taken in the Cabinet meeting headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The committee will have to submit its report in 90 days to the MoHUA.

On submission of the report, the Cabinet Secretariat will be informed and further action taken.

The recommendations will provide a way forward for conferring ownership or transfer/mortgage rights to the people living in UCs in Delhi. This is for the first time that the conferment of the above rights to the residents of UCs in Delhi is being considered. (UNI)
