New Delhi, Jan 16: The Congress on Wednesday saw itself getting embroiled into a fresh controversy on the 1984 riots case with the presence of senior party leader and one of the alleged accused in the case jagdish tytler at a function where former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit took charge as DPCC president .
The Congress leader was seen to be present on the dias in the front row during the function, evoking a controversy.
Mr Tytler, however, sought to allay the controversy by denying any involvement in the 1984 riots case.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the event , Tytler asked whether there was any FIR or a case against him.
Asked about the prosecution of party colleague Sajjan Kumar, who has been convicted of life imprisonment in the case by a local court, Mr Tytler wondered as to why his name was being taken.
‘’What can a man say when the Court has given a verdict. You also mention my name. Why? Is there an FIR? Is there a case? No? Then why do you take my name? Someone said that and you believed it,’’he said.
Mr Tytler welcomed the decision of making Sheila Dikshit as the DPCC chief and expressed his gratitutde.
His presence, however, evoked criticism from several quarters with Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa hitting out at the Congress over the issue. (UNI)
