Raipur, Apr 8: As many as 1478 prisoners were released from various jails in Chhattisgarh under measures to curb the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in the state, official sources said on Wednesday.
According to them, 427 prisoners were released from various jails on interim bail of less than three months while 742 prisoners were released on interim bail of more than three months and 262 prisoners were released on parole.
In addition to this, 46 prisoners were released from various jails on completion of sentence, the sources added. It is noteworthy that the state government decided to reduce the number of prisoners in jails in an effort to reduce the risk of coronavirus infection among them.
To this end prisoners were being released on interim bail and parole under certain conditions. (UNI)
