Raipur, Mar 4 : The appointments of vice chancellors, allegedly from RSS background in two government universities of Chhattisgarh yesterday seems to lead to a confrontation between Rajbhawan and state government.
The government has expressed dissent and displeasure over these appointments. When asked about this during an informal discussion on budget with senior editors Tuesday night Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that he came to know about appointment of vicechancellors with RSS background only after issuance of appointment order.
Rajbhawan ignored the recommendation of the state government, he said. Now that Governor has done her job it is the turn of state government to do its job, he added. Controversy erupted after release of re-appointment of Vansh Gopal Sharma to the post of Vice Chancellor of Pt Sunderlal Sharma Open University Bilaspur and appointment of Baldeo Bhai Sharma to the post of Vice Chancellor of Kushabhau Thakre University of Journalism and Mass Communication Raipur.
According to information, the orders for the appointment of Vice-Chancellors were released by the Governor Anusuiya Uikey, although as per the earlier tradition, the appointment orders have to be issued by Secretary or Principal Secretary in Rajbhawan Secretariat after Governor’s approval. State government came to know about the appointment after issuance of appointment orders because this tradition was not followed.
According to sources, these posts remained vacant as no consensus was evolved between Rajbhawan and state government on the names of the Vice-Chancellors recommended by the Chief Minister in the panel made for appointment on both the universities. Government was convinced that appointment would be done only after consensus, but the Governor suddenly issued order exercising the powers conferred under University Act. (UNI)
