Raipur, Jan 8 : The nationwide ‘Bandh’ called by trade unions on various issues including amendment in labour laws and privatisation of government undertakings received mix response in Chhattisgarh. In the capital Raipur, almost all the banks except State Bank of India remained shut.
All the post offices including the main post office remained closed. The employees of Life Insurance Corporation, general insurance companies of public sector, as well as the central and state government employees are participating in the strike.
The employees jointly staged a dharna and held a meeting, charging Modi Government with adopting anti-labour policies. The strike had a mixed effect in the industrial city of Korba. Only handful of labourers came to work in coal mines. But since Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) stayed away from strike, the work in the mines did not stop completely. However, the strike left its impact in banks and other central institutions. The impact of the strike has also been reported in BALCO. (UNI)
