Raipur, Jan 2 : Slamming the ruling Congress for its announcement to field authorised candidates for the posts of panch and sarpanch in panchayat elections in the state, Janata Congress Chhattisgarh state president Amit Jogi has challenged it to hold panchayat elections on party-basis with the use of party’s election symbol.
Reacting strongly to the announcement of candidates for the posts of Panch and Sarpanch by Congress, Jogi told UNI that people in the villages had been standing united and they never considered political parties in panch and sarpanch elections.
But Bhupesh government which failed to fulfill its election promises to the people of the state during the last one year of its tenure is trying to divide people by announcing to field authorised candidates in panch and sarpanch elections, he alleged.
In fact Bhupesh government wants to divert the attention of villagers by dividing them, he alleged. So far political parties have been fielding authorized candidates for the post of district panchayat member but if Congress is going to field authorized candidates for election of panchs and sarpanchs, it should first gather courage to hold panchayat elections on party-basis with the use of election symbol, Jogi said. It seems as if Congress government wants to capture the posts of sarpanch and panch in villages using money power as it did in local body elections, he alleged. (UNI)
