During the operation, the Naxalites, hiding in the bushes, opened fire on them. The security personnel retaliated with heavy fire causing the Naxalites to flee in dense forests after an hour-long encounter.
Confirming the killing of the four jawans, Kanker Superintendent of Police KL Dhruv said that police parties were dispatched in search of the Naxalites.
Polling in the Kanker constituency will be held in the second phase of Lok Sabha election on April 18. The Naxalites have boycotted the elections and even distributed pamphlets asking the people to do the same. (UNI)
