FIR against PCC chief was political vendetta: Congress

Raipur, Dec 1: Alleging attempts to muzzle democratic voice, the Congress on Saturday said that FIR had been registered against Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Bhupesh Baghel at the behest of BJP government.

PCC Chief Baghel had staged demonstration outside Election Commission office on November 19.

Taking note, the Election Commission had lodged complaint against Baghel at Gol Bazar Police Station.

Putting forward the stand of Congress, party leaders Shailesh Nitin Trivedi, Ruchir Gerg and Kiranmayi Nayak (Ex-Mayor, Raipur) said that Bhupesh Baghel had approached Election Commission with demand for impartial polling after staging demonstration against government’s conspiracy before polling.

But vendetta politics is being played as police are taking action under pressure of the government, they said. According to Congress leaders the days are numbered for Raman government and its game of implicating opposition party leaders in false charges will be over soon.

Questioning the rally of BJP National President Amit Shah on restricted routes, the Congress leaders asked how come he was allowed to take out political rally on the roads where social and religious rallies were not permitted. Charging the Election Commission with working in biased manner they regretted that no action had been taken on any of their complaints against BJP.

They also said that Chief Electoral Officer had been ignoring the complaints of Congress. Party’s State In-Charge PL Punia had also lodged a written complaint with Election Commission in this regard, they added. (UNI)
