New Delhi, 09 Oct 2019: Reliance Jio has decided to charge six paise a minute from its customers making calls to subscribers of other mobile operators.
The operator was offering all voice calls at zero charges until now. While calls within RJio network and to landlineRJio said it had been forced to impose a fee due to the Interconnect Usage Charge, which it ha phones will remain to be available at zero cost, calls to other mobile operators including Airtel and Vodafone Idea will be charged.

"So far, in the last three years, Jio has paid nearly ₹13,500 crore as net IUC charges to the other operators," RJio said.
Interconnect usage charges (IUC) is a fee paid by the operators on whose network the call originates to the operators on whose network the call terminates. Traditionally, when telecom networks were only about voice calls, this fee was necessary to compensate the larger operators who have invested billions of dollars into rolling out network into all parts of the country. However, the TRAI has now decided to review its decision to end the IUC by January 2020. This decision has triggered a fresh round of battle between incumbent operators and Reliance Jio with both sides blaming each other of gambling the system to earn higher revenues through IUC.
