Guwahati, Sep 3: The first direct flight from Guwahati to Bangkok by an international carrier was announced by Nok Air, a Thailand-based airline that serves the largest number of domestic routes within Thailand.
The premier carrier of Thailand, in which Thai Airways owns the second largest stake, will operate twice weekly to and from Guwahati to Bangkok from September 22 next.
Addressing a press conference here, Jyotsaiban Sehgal, director of Group Concorde, an aviation specialist associating with Nok Air, said, "We have received tremendous response for the inaugural flights. The flights are completely booked already."
"We have special launch price that has many incentives. Once the regular pricing starts, we assure to provide the best rates," Dinit Mehta, general manager, Strategy, Group Concorde, said.
Istra Stapanaseth, director, Tourism Authority of Thailand, India, said the North East was a vital market for the country and Guwahati serves as the gateway for the region.
He said, "Besides inviting people to visit Thailand, we would also like to facilitate our people to visit the North East."
He added that North East of India was popular among the people of Thailand for its mountainous terrain, especially among backpackers. (UNI)
