Hyderabad, Aug 26 : OnePlus, the leading premium Smartphone brand on Monday announced that it will invest Rs 1000 crore in Hyderabad Research and Development (R & D) centre in the next three years .
Speaking after inaugurating its India’s first R&D centre here, OnePlus Founder and CEO Pete Lau said that the company aims to grow the Hyderabad R & D facility into its biggest one globally in the next three years and add 1500 employees during the same period. At present the facility has 200 employees, he said. Stating that the Hyderabad R & D Centre facilities not only utilizing for the development of products in India but also the development of global products, Mr. Pete Lau said Hyderabad Centre would house three labs - camera lab, communications and networking labs and automation labs that would focus heavily on camera development, 5G testing, software with a focus on AI and performance testing.
Stating that the company has five R & D centres across globe, Mr Pete Lau said Rs 100 crore would be invested in 5G testing lab which was located in Hyderabad R & D Centre. The company also planning to release 5G phone in the next year, he added. Elaborating its journey in India, OnePlus India General Manager Vikas Agarwal said that the company started its journey in the country in December, 2014, a year after global launch.
OnePlus already has presence in 40 countries. In premium segment, it has 35 per cent market share in India. Hence the Company has decided to invest as much as in India because it was a very important market, he said. Stating that recently OnePlus was adjudged as Super Brand in Smartphone segment in India, Mr Agarwal said the company will open one of its biggest “Experience Centre” at Himayatnagar, here.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Working President and former Minister K T Rama Rao, who inaugurated the R& D centre urged the OnePlus authorities, who has mobile manufacturing facility at Noida to choose Telangana for their second one because Noida unit working as out of space.
Congratulating OnePlus authority for establishing biggest R & D Centre and also planning to invest Rs 1000 crore, Mr Rama Rao asked them to invest mobile manufacturing segment in Telangana. Commenting on OnePlus tag line “ Never Settle”, he asked them settle down in Telangana by setting up of mobile manufacturing unit. Telangana IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan also spoke on the occasion.
