Hyderabad, Aug 20: Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Principal Chief Commissioner of Income said here on Monday that the number of Income Tax Return (ITR) for this fiscal year has dropped in comparison to last year in the two Telugu states, adding that the department is hopeful to achieve its target by the end of August. "Last year in 2018-19 we collected Rs 58,040 crores as IT from the two Telugu states which translates to 96 per cent of our target. This year our target is to collect Rs 70,574 crores." Mr N Sankaran said while addressing a session on Income Tax (IT) E-Filing awareness programme at Karadaate E-Sahyog Abhiyaan.
"However, with the last date of filing ITR being extended to Aug 31, we are confident to achieve our target," he added. In order to familiarise public with the simplified tax E-filing, the taxation department has recently launched two mobile units in twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. UNI
