Eight core industries growth 2.6 pc in April compared to 4.9 pc in March

New Delhi, May 31 : The combined Index of Eight Core Industries in April 2019 stood at 2.6 per cent compared to 4.9 per cent in March, according to government data on Friday.

''The Eight Core Industries comprise 40.27 per cent of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP). The combined Index of Eight Core Industries stood at 127.5 in April 2019, which was 2.6 per cent higher as compared to the index of April 2018. Its cumulative growth during April to March, 2018-19 was 4.3 per cent,'' the Commerce and Industry Ministry said here.The Eight Core Industries comprise 40.27 per cent of the weight of items included in the Index of IIP.

Coal production increased by 2.8 per cent in April, 2019 while Crude Oil production declined by 6.9 per cent over the same month last year.The Natural Gas production declined by 0.8 per cent while Petroleum Refinery production increased by 4.3 per cent in April, 2019 over April, 2018.

Fertilizers production declined by 4.4 per cent while Steel production increased by 1.5 per cent in April 2019 over the same month last year.Steel production increased by 1.5 per cent whereas Cement production by 0.8 per cent in April, 2019 over April 2018.
Electricity generation increased by 5.8 per cent in April, 2019 over April, 2018. Its cumulative index increased by 5.2 per cent during April to March, 2018-19 over the corresponding period of previous year. (UNI)
