Vishakpatnam, May 28 : Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) has finalized Anadolu Shipyard (ADIK) Istanbul, Turkey, as their collaborator for construction of five Fleet Support Ships (FSS) for Indian Navy worth more than Rs 16,000 Crore.
In a release here on Tuesday, HSL Chairman and Managing Director Rear Admiral LV Sarat Babu said that this will enable HSL to imbibe best ship building practices and modern technology -- pre-outfitting, modular construction and zonal painting.
First steel cutting is expected by 2020 end and first ship will be constructed in a period of four years and remaining with a gap of 10 months each, he said these vessels will be built at HSL in collaboration with Anadolu Shipyard, a member of TAIS group in Turkey that has been selected through global tendering process.
The collaborator will provide support to HSL in terms of design and assistance in construction.Mr Sarat Babu emphasized that the construction of these five ships each of about 45,000 tons full load displacement would give a fillip to the local industry in a big way aiding in MSME development and employment generation.
It would require about three fold increase in manpower and capacity of local companies dealing with steel fabrication, blasting, painting, piping, cable installation and outfitting to meet HSL order, the release added. UNI
