Google’s Gmail turns 15 on April 1, 2019. It has been 15 years since Paul Buchheit created it in 2004. When it began, it had an initial storage capacity of 1 gigabyte per user. Today it allows 15 GB free storage. Gmail has grown and it now has 1.5 billion monthly active users.

CNET reports, ‘Yahoo Mail has 228 million users a month. Little by little, Gmail displaced incumbents like AOL Mail and Hot Mail.’ It is a free product for consumers. Google Maps is a leading and popular map service which was started a year after Gmail.

Google bought up Android and You Tube the biggest mobile operating system and video sharing site. It built the Chrome browser which is fast replacing Microsoft’s Internet Explorer as the preferred choice by users.

Google is constantly inventing and adding to its repertoire of products. Google rolled out a big redesign of Gmail in 2018 and added several new features.
