Biocon chief urges women entrepreneurs

Bengaluru, Mar 6: Biocon Ltd, chief Kiran Mazumdar Shaw have exhorted the women members to foray into the corporate and business world in large numbers and employ their capability to excel.

In her key note address at the CII Karnataka Annual Meet 2019 held here on Wednesday, Biocon Ltd Chairman and Managing Director Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said that " the world is celebrating women’s week and we must endeavor to get more women in business. It is important for women to be part of the economic mainstream because we have many capable and competent women in this country. We need to leverage everything that we have done right to become agile and start developing technology-based leadership in a global sense".

She said that "if we want to be agile in the use of technology, we must plan now to leverage technology along with the vast talent pool available in Bengaluru. Now is the time to design thinking that will help us be global leaders. 65 per cent of today’s school children will be engaged in jobs that we haven’t yet envisioned. “.

Emphasising the need to build capability and competence in new and emerging technologies, she said: “For instance, we can use robotics to end manual scavenging and Bengaluru being the IT capital of the country should take the lead in this. We need to leverage data in an intelligent way that creates value to our society. We have a vast amount of data, but we are doing very little with it”.

She was of the opinion that through technology we can solve most of the problems that plague modern cities such as air quality, water pollution and traffic. In India it is important to focus on affordability to ensure that technology is accessible to all.

Dr N Muthukumar, Chairman CII Karnataka, in his address, said that CII is working closely with Government to ensure that Karnataka becomes a water surplus state by 2030. The Six MOUs signed between Government and CII members is a step in the right direction. As per the MoU, the adoption of lakes will lead to the holistic development and cleaning of our water bodies in a sustainable manner".

Earlier in the day Mr Aman Choudhari, Managing Director of Surin Automotive Pvt. Ltd was elected as the new Chairman of CII Karnataka and Mr Sandeep Singh, Managing Director, Tata Hitachi Construction Machinery Co Pvt Ltd will serve as the Vice Chairman CII Karnataka (UNI)
