NISH plans expo on AT products from Jan 18

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 16: Seeking to promote awareness about a wide range of products and devices available for users of Assistive Technology (AT), the National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH) has planned an exhibition from January 18.

The expo will showcase products developed by different companies and research institutes, for improving life and rehabilitation of people with disability. Also to benefit innovators, startups, entrepreneurs and professionals, the exhibition will be set up on the sidelines of the two-day conference on AT to be held at NISH here from January 18.

The products on the display will include navigation and reading aids for the visually impaired, communication aids for people with speech impairment and mobility aids for the physically challenged. Entry to the expo is free. Information desks about opportunities available in funding and support for AT developers will also function as part of the event.

The conference is being organized by the Centre for Assistive Technology and Innovation (CATI) in association with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering’s (IEEE) Humanitarian Activities Committee (HAC), IEEE SIGHT (Special Instant Group on Humanitarian Technology) Kerala Section, and Kerala Development and Strategic Innovation Council (K-DISC).

The conference will bring together various stakeholders in the AT value chain, from researchers and product developers to people with disability, who are the end-users of the technology. (UNI)
