Mumbai, Nov 07: Sensex rises by 245.77 points or 0.70 per cent to settle at 35,237.68 in a shortened trading session marking the start of the Hindu new year, Samvat 2075, as buying was seen across the board on Wednesday.
The Nifty 50 index rose 68.40 points or 0.65 percent to settle at 10,598.40.
Trading for Samvat 2075 began on a firm note. The Sensex settled above the psychological 35,000 level after regaining that level in opening trade.
Domestic stock markets were open for a special Muhurat trading session, between 1715 hrs and 1830 hrs.
BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.81 pc and Small-Cap rose 1.19 percent. Both these indices outperformed the Sensex.
The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was strong. On the BSE, 1940 shares rose and 430 shares fell. A total of 127 shares were unchanged.
M&M rose by 1.97pc to Rs 793.50 to be the top gainer in the sensex pack.
Other gainer were Tata Motors dvr by 1.68 pc to Rs 105.90, Infosys by 1.38 pc to Rs 676.00, Tata motors by 1.17 pc to Rs 195.10, Bajaj Auto by 1.16 pc to Rs 2699.00, Heromotoco by 1.15 pc to Rs 2,899.95,
Vedl by 1.13 pc to Rs 209.95, ITC by 0.99 pc to Rs 280.15 and, Asian Paints by 0.98 to 1250.85 were the major Sensex gainers.
The loser were Bharti Airtel by 0.34 pc to Rs 304.00 and Axis bank by 0.08 pc to Rs 607.10.
Auto stocks that edge higher were Maruti Suzuki India by 0.79 pc, , Eicher Motors by 0.68 pc, Ashok Leyland by 0.91 pc, Escorts by 0.56 pc and TVS Motor Company by 0.7 pc rose.
Hero MotoCorp rose 0.84 pc after the company unveiled its new premium motorcycle, the XPulse 200T, at the global platform of the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy. The announcement was made after market hours yesterday, November 6, 2018.
All sectoral indices ended the session on the positive note with BSE Auto being the top sectoral gainer up by 1.08 pc .
Other gainer sectoral gainer were Oil & gas and Health care up by 0.99 pc each , FMCG by 0.95 pc, IT by 0.90 pc, Realty and Teck by 0.84 pc each, Capital goods by 0.75 pc, Power by 0.74 pc, Metal by 0.73 pc Consumer Durables by o.52 pc and Bankex by 0.45 pc.
Stock markets will remain shut tomorrow, 8 November 2018 on account of Diwali Balipratipada. (UNI)
