The newly-inaugurated Samsung plant in Noida has a capacity to manufacture 1 crore mobile phones per month. It is expected that the new factory can create 1,000 more jobs.
The factory facility built up in the 35-acre land is first-of-its-kind and is expected to double Samsung's mobile phone manufacturing capacity in India. At present, Samsung manufactures over 60 million smartphones annually in India. With the new plant, the manufacturing capacity will get doubled and nearly 120 million mobile phones can be manufactured.
Samsung has invested Rs.5,000 crore for the new factory facility. Company sources said that around 30 percent of the production at Samsung's Noida manufacturing facility will be exported.
Samsung Electronics claims that the new factory is the world's biggest mobile phone manufacturing facility. India has around 40 crore smartphones.
The facility in Noida will allow Samsung to make phones at a lower cost due to its huge scale than the other phone manufacturing centres such as China. The factory is believed to help Samsung to compete with rivals such as China's Xiaomi, which became India's biggest Smartphone brand by shipments earlier this year.
