Protests against CAA for political mileage by some parties : Ravi Shankar

Agency News

Bihar-Sharif, Feb 17 : Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today alleged that the protests against CAA were being organised and a sort of fear psychosis was being created in a section of society for political mileage by some parties across the country.

Mr Prasad told media persons here that CAA was framed and enforced strictly in accordance with Constitution while article 370 was abrogated after approval of the parliament, following a legislation brought in both Houses to this effect. Both the vital decisions were taken in national interests, he stressed.

"Earlier, I had made it clear on several occasions that CAA did not apply to any citizen of India and no one in the country would lose citizenship due to CAA," the Union Minister said, adding that the CAA was rolled out to provide citizenship to persecuted minorities in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who had migrated and settled in India.

The persecuted minorities in neighbouring countries, including Hindus, Buddhists, Shikhs, Persians and Christians, who had taken shelter in India, would get benefits of CAA, he stated. (UNI)
