Patna, Aug 16 : Arrest threat looms large over Independent MLA from Mokama Anant Singh following recovery of AK 47 assault rifles and huge quantity of explosives from his house during a police raid at Ladma village under Barh sub divisional area in Patna district today.
Patna police superintendent (rural) Kantesh Kumar Mishra said that a variant of AK 47 assault rifle loaded with 26 rounds of bullets and two bombs were seized from the ancestral house of Mr Singh. He said the sophisticated firearm could be AK 56 rifle too as there were a lot of similarities between AK 47 and AK 56 rifles. Bomb disposal squad had been called from Patna to defuse bombs, he added.
Mr Mishra said that the raid was conducted at the ancestral house of Mr Singh following specific intelligence input. He said the MLA kept visiting his ancestral house off and the caretaker of the house was being questioned. He said assistance of central investigating agencies would also be taken if the situation so warranted.
Meanwhile, Mr Singh crying foul said that attempts were being made to implicate him in a case on the hint of JD (U) MP from Munger Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh as the latter did not want that he should contest state assembly election due next year. He said he would meet chief minister Nitish Kumar over the alleged police high-handedness against him and would move to the court if his grievances were not addressed by Mr Kumar. He said police had started harassing him for no reason and were acting with prejudice.
As it is, Mr Singh had fielded his wife Neelam Devi against the then water resources minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, a close aide of CM from Munger in last Lok Sabha, albeit his wife was defeated in the election. Mr Singh had left JD (U) in 2015 ahead of last state assembly election when JD (U) tied up with RJD. (UNI)
