Patna, Aug 9: Former Bihar Chief Minister and president of Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) Jeetan Ram Manjhi today announced that his party would contest alone in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, claiming that the deprived and the poor were solidly behind him. Manjhi, while kicking off a party membership campaign, said workers suggested contesting alone in 2020 Assembly elections as they felt that the party was not given an opportunity to contest sufficient number of seats in alliance.
HAM was in fact given only one seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, while one seat each was offered to the party by Congress and RJD on his request. RJD State spokesman Mrityunjay Tiwary said every party had the right to expand its mass base and there was no wrong in Manjhi doing it for his party. However, he exuded confidence that Manjhi would continue in the Grand Alliance. (UNI)
