Security beefed up at Beur Jail following intelligence input

Patna, Jul 18 : Security has been beefed up in and around Beur Model Central Jail following intelligence input on the possibility of a major jail break.

Additional chief secretary (Home) Amir Subhani who visited Beur Jail along with director general of police Gupteshwar Pandey today said the security arrangement at Beur Jail was strong enough to deal with any situation.

When asked details about visit by him, Mr Subhani said it was a routine visit and there was no need to treat it differently. Meanwhile, Patna district magistrate Kumar Ravi said that patrolling inside and outside Beur Jail had been intensified following the receipt of intelligence input. He said adequate security was already available in and around Beur Jail but it had been beefed up further.

Sources said 80 additional jawans of Bihar Military Police (BMP) and members of SWAT team of Bihar police had been deployed outside and inside Beur Jail respectively. As it is, senior police officers inspected security arrangement at the jail after the alert by the Intelligence Bureau. The IB has warned that some prisoners in the jail might be planning a major jailbreak. A large number of dreaded Maoists and terrorists are lodged in BeurJail. (UNI)
