Patna, Jun 8: Vigilance sleuths caught executive engineer of road construction department Suresh Prasad Singh and cashier red handed when they were accepting bribe of Rs 14 lakh from the complainant at the former`s residence at West Patel Nagar here today.
Sources at the vigilance department said a trap under the leadership of DSP rank officer Gopal Paswan was laid on the executive engineer Mr Singh posted at road construction department (Patna west division) when a contractor Akhilesh Kumar Jaiswal lodged a complaint against him.
Mr Jaiswal informed the department that Mr Singh was demanding bribe for awarding him work for the construction of a road in Bihta.
Sources said that cashier of the road construction department Shashi Bhushan Kumar was also arrested from the spot.
Later, vigilance sleuths conducted raids at the residence of executive engineer and seized nearly Rs 2 crore in cash, jewellery and investment papers. The currency notes recovered from the residence of Mr Singh were being counted.
Sources said the executive engineer and cashier were arrested when they were accepting bribe at the residence of Mr Singh.
Sources said that Mr Singh and cashier would be produced before special vigilance court after their interrogation.
