Patna, Jun 5: Rich tributes were paid today to veteran socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan who had launched 'Sampoorn Kranti' mainly known as student movement which had thrown out the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from power after she imposed Emergency.
A function was organised here to pay tributes to the leader and recall his contribution in pulling out the nation from the darkness of Emergency imposed in mid-seventies.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi paid floral tributes to Jayaprakash at his statue near Gandhi Maidan in Patna.
The two had actively participated in the student movement spearheaded by Jayaprakash which left its impact across the country and took the shape of mass movement, leading to debacle of erstwhile Indira Gandhi regime. Both the leaders said his ideology was still relevant and the young generation should inculcate it with full sincerity and dedication. (UNI)
