Agency News

Patna, Apr 03 : Former Bihar Minister and senior leader Sunil Kumar Pintu today joined JD(U) and he has also been formally declared as a party candidate from Sitamarhi Lok Sabha seat. Mr Pintu joined JD(U) in a hurriedly organised function at party headquarters here in presence of senior leader Rajeev Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh and others. Mr Singh also announced that Mr Pintu would be party candidate from Sitamarhi Lok Sabha seat.

Mr Singh said that JD(U) had earlier declared Dr Varun Kumar as party candidate from Sitamarhi and also allotted party symbol to him. Dr Kumar had informed party leadership in writing that he would not contest from Sitamarhi following which a decision was taken to field Mr Pintu as party candidate from there, he added. "JD(U) has not dropped the candidature of Dr Kumar and the decision of not contesting from Sitamarhi was taken only by him", Mr Singh said, adding that Mr Pintu was a good leader and had been Minister in Nitish Kumar government earlier. Mr Pintu would emerge victorious from Sitamarhi seat, he claimed.

Meanwhile, leader of the opposition Tejaswi Prasad Yadav took pot-shot at Chief Minister Mr Nitish Kumar saying he was the captain of a sinking ship. It was a reflection of the mood of the people that forced JD(U) candidate to return party ticket, he said, adding that it was a totally different matter that those living in an illusion were enjoying in air- conditioned rooms in New Delhi over the findings of various surveys being conducted by several so-called agencies.
