Samastipur, Mar 12: Police opened fire to quell an unruly mob when it ransacked Shivajinagar police outpost, pelted stones on police personnel leaving at least six of them injured and torched a police vehicle following a road mishap in which two sisters and their cousin were killed in Samastipur district today.

Police said here that cops opened fire in air after the mob infuriated over the death of three people -two minor sisters and their cousin in a road mishap pelted stones on cops and and torched a police vehicle inside the police outpost premises. Sources said at least six police personnel were injured in stone pelting. The mob damaged the truck and also blocked Baheria-Rosera main road after indulging in arson.

Earlier, the mob ransacked a government hospital where one of the accident victims succumbed to his injuries inflicted on him due to the accident as they alleged that there was no doctor present at the hospital. Samastipur District Magistrate Chandrashekar Singh and police superintendent Harpreet Kaur rushed to the spot and were trying to control the situation.

Police said that two siblings identified as Nisha Kumari (10) and Neetu Kumari (8) were killed on the spot while their cousin Harinandan Kumar (22) died at Samastipur Sadar Hospital during his treatment after his preliminary treatment at a government hospital in Shivajinagar. (UNI)
