Vigilance Court sentences senior government officer to four years of imprisonment

Patna, Feb 26 : Special vigilance court today sentenced the then additional collector cum public grievance redressal officer Ranjeet Prasad Singh to four years of rigorous imprisonment after finding guilty of accepting bribe.

Special Vigilance (Trap) Judge Braj Mohan Singh sentenced Mr Singh to four years of rigorous imprisonment to four years of imprisonment after finding him guilty under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act.

The court also slapped a penalty of Rs 20,000 against him. In the event of default in payment of penalty, the convict will have to serve additional one year of imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, vigilance sleuths had arrested the officer when he was accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 from a candidate aspiring for the post of Anganwadi Sevika at his official residence in Bettiah on December 31, 2016
