Assam COVID-19 tally breaches 3,000-mark

Guwahati, Jun 9 : The COVID 19 positive tally in Assam crossed 3,000 on Tuesday, while the number of recovered patients exceeded the 1,000-mark, even as the death of a man who had recently returned from Chennai took the casualty figure to five. The 55-year-old man, identified as one Arun Kakoti, was in home quarantine in his village in Karbi Anglong district after testing negative for the virus during his stay in an institutional quarantine.

But his health had deteriorated while at home and he was brought dead to the Diphu Medical College and Hospital yesterday, with the swab sample collected after his death testing positive for COVID-19. Out of the five lives claimed by COVID 19 in the state, three were detected with the virus after death. Meanwhile, 215 new cases have also been detected in the state, pushing the overall tally to 3050. On the other hand, 313 discharges from different hospitals took the number of total recovered patients to over 1,000. With this the number of recovered cases has gone up to 1097, while the number of active cases is at 1945. (UNI)
