Guwahati, May 27 : The number of COVID 19 positive cases in Assam crossed 700 with detection of 22 new cases today so far, including detection of the first air traveller to be found positive. The overall tally now stands at 704. State Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the new cases through Twitter.
A person from Kamrup (metro) district, who had flown from Ahmedabad to Guwahati, has tested positive for COVID 19. Among the other detected cases, 14 are from Golaghat, which has been reporting the highest number of new cases since three days.
Three of the new patients are from Nagaon, two from Karbi Anglong, and one each from Dhemaji and Lakhimpur. The state has been recording a massive spike in new COVID 19 cases with 134 and 156 cases detected yesterday and the day before respectively. People returning from outside have been accounting for most of the new cases. The active cases tally now stands at 635, while 62 people have recovered and four have died. (UNI)
