Guwahati, May 16: Several people from Assam who had attended the TablighiJamaat congregation at NizamuddinMarkaz in Delhi, which turned out to be a novel coronavirus hotspot for the entire country and a source of infection for several COVID-19 positive cases in Assam too, are all set to return to the state.
Altogether 38 people from the state who took part in the congregation at Markaz are returning to Assam after completion of quarantine period in New Delhi, an official source informed here today. The District Magistrate of South East district, Delhi, HarleenKaur, informed the Resident Commissioner at New Delhi and the district magistrates of the concerned districts of Assam that of the 73 people who had attended the congregation at Markaz, 18 persons were released from quarantine centres on May 12 and another 20 persons on May 14, after their swab samples tested negative.
Kaur informed that transit passes have been issued together with vehicles to carry the people to their respective destinations. Kaur requested the administrations of the respective districts in Assam to put the people under home quarantine for another period of 14 days.
More than 30 COVID positive cases in the state, including the first ones, were linked to the NizamuddinMarkaz congregation that had taken place in March. The COVID 19 tally in the state now stands at 91, of whom 41 have recovered and two died so far. (UNI)
