Agency News

Guwahati, Mar 27: Casual attitude of a section of people led to near-breakdown of the lockdown to check spread of COVID 19 in Assam, forcing the state government to issue stringent rules on exemption of services and commodities during the period. The state Health department continued to accelerate its efforts to create medical care facilities for any COVID 19 cases, while the chief minister reviewed the preparations to meet any eventuality in the districts in the eastern part of the state. The government has also spoken of deducting 10-20 per cent salary of state government employees, if any positive case of COVID 19 is detected, with the deducted amount to be returned to the employees next fiscal. The state government has ordered closing down of all markets, except grocery and pharmacy, till March 31 after easing of rules, in line with Central government’s guidelines for exemptions during lockdown, led to crowding of markets in the state today.
