Guwahati, Feb 12 : The Assam Cabinet today approved a slew of schemes for the Tea Tribe communities of the state, including financial grants for students and construction of houses.
The state Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, approved one-time grant of Rs 10,000 each to students of Tea Tribe communities who successfully clear class X and class XII examinations, under a special scheme. Under another scheme to help self-employment generation, Rs 25,000 one-time financial assistance will be provided to 15,000 youths of the Tea Tribe communities. Moreover, tea garden workers of Assam Tea Corporation Ltd who live in ‘kutcha’ houses, will be given Rs 1.30 lakh for construction of ‘pucca’ houses.
This scheme will be later extended to cover workers of all tea gardens in the state. Beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) will be provided additional Rs 20,000 each for procuring solar power equipment. In other decisions, the Cabinet approved increasing land allocation for agricultural purposes from existing three bighas to seven bighas, under the Land Policy, 2019.
The Cabinet also approved the regularization of more than 600 existing contractual posts under the Social Welfare department. (UNI)
